    Classroom Consultation

Classroom consultation is an important part of the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education’s teacher training programs. Staff development that includes follow-up in classroom application provides teachers with the confidence and support to implement this program in the classroom. The trainer will demonstrate techniques in the classroom, and is available for additional consultation and visitation.

    Refresher Workshop

Learning is a continuous experience. As with any teaching strategy, a review is a valuable opportunity to deepen one’s understanding of a methodology. The teachers come together with a trainer to review materials, ask questions, and share successes. Teachers benefit especially from a review prior to the beginning of a school year. This is a valuable time to prepare materials and plan for student assessments.

    Phonemic Awareness Workshop

The most important reading readiness skill for young children is phonemic awareness. The format includes goals and rationale of sequential activities, from phonological to phonemic awareness, and leading into the basics of Orton-Gillingham. Teachers are provided with quidelines for lessons, reading readiness, and assessment to help students develop this critical skill.

    Greek and Latin Roots

The Greek and Latin Roots workshop is designed for middle and high school teachers. This course meets the challenging needs of older students. It provides teachers with advanced tools to increase fluency in reading, vocabulary and spelling skills. Greek and Latin Roots is taught with a multi-sensory approach to facilitate mastery of the English language.

    K-1 and 2-5 Writing Workshops

This program gives teachers the strategies and tools they need to introduce primary students to the writing process, and to create and implement a Daily Writing Workshop. Teachers will learn how to expand on what students know about the writing process and various genres, keeping specific target skills in mind. Explicit, sequential lesson plans are provided to help students integrate elements such as description, transitions and figurative language into their everyday writing.
